A Dream Taking Shape: Our Journey from Concept to Construction
We’ve come a long way since securing our section in Hanley’s Farm—what started as a vision has now taken shape as a tangible structure, standing strong with a blend of traditional timber craftsmanship and SelectSIP innovation.
Bringing the Timber to Life
One of the most exciting early milestones was the arrival of our handcrafted timber frame, built with precision by Heritage Timbercraft. Over 100 pieces of timber made their journey from Napier to Queenstown, each cut and finished to perfection. Before assembly, we chamfered, oiled, and prepared each beam, for durability and a flawless finish.
Then came the moment we had been waiting for—the timber frame was raised on-site, standing tall as the heart of our home. What an amazing sight.
Innovation Through Challenges
With the frame in place, our next step was to install the SelectSIP panels, a key component of our energy-efficient and airtight construction. However, delays in panel delivery forced us to pivot. Rather than sit idle, we shifted our construction sequence, completing internal framing and the mid-floor first, leaving space for the SIP panels to be seamlessly installed once they arrived.
We kept progress on track and allowed ourselves a chance to refine and improve the overall system—one challenge became an opportunity.
Fast Tracking the Build
Once the SIP panels arrived, the real magic happened. These panels integrated multiple construction steps into one streamlined process:
Wall Framing
Insulation
Moisture Barrier
Structural Lining
In just three days, a small team had these panels up—showcasing how fast and efficient this system is.
Watertight and Ready for the Next Steps
With the roof installed, our build reached a major milestone—a fully enclosed structure. Since then, we’ve been pushing ahead with interior and exterior elements:
Glazing installed, revealing the dramatic exposed beams.
Fire-rated ceiling fitted for the self-contained unit.
Cladding next, with a faster installation process than standard methods.
As we approach the final stages, we’re excited to bring you along for the journey. The next updates will include external finishing, interior fit-out, and the final touches that will transform this space into a home.
